IP Authentication allows users coming from a specific IP address range to automatically logon - known as Single Sign On (SSO). 

All users matching the IP range will be logged on as a single user.

 

This is especially useful for organisations who may have institutions whose members are provided with access to content e.g. a professional institute or publisher of content who sells their content to a University establishment.

CHANGING IP AUTHENTICATION SETTINGS COULD OPEN UP CONTENT ACCESS IF NOT APPLIED CORRECTLY


Several steps are required to configure IP authentication correctly.

Enable the setting in System configuration Maintenance.

Next create an IP Group.

The **Security Menu** has within it the menu ** IP Group Management**.

 

If a single IP address is available this can be assigned directly to a user. It is recommended, however, that Groups are used as it aids the management of IP addresses.

 

Create a Group name.

Specify the IP address(s) to be assigned to the Group.

Once all IP's are added **Save** the group and navigate to the User account you need to assign this restriction to.   
Select the **'IP' **tab  in the User Record (see below) and specify the Group you created previously, or alternatively type a single IP address.

Select the Radio Button appropriate to the access required.

Save the User Record. 

 

Users accessing the system from specified the IP address will be logged in automatically.

**IMPORTANT Note:** This does not prevent access to the system if accessing from outside a specified range,<u> it is purely for single sign on</u>.

If a user, with an IP address assigned as above, accesses the system from a different IP address, for example at home, the user will need to login manually.

**IMPORTANT Note:** If a user logs out when using IP authentication they will be automatically logged back in after 5 elapsed minutes.

 

If a restriction is required to prevent login from unauthorised IP addresses, this can be established by speaking with a Soutron Support Engineer
