A change was introduced to better manage passwords and improve security in an earlier release of Soutron (v3.2.2)

The security of the password and the system security in general that derives from the use of a user login has been upgraded.

User Registration Requirements

1. *Create New User* menu must be selected from within Users or Patrons menu
2. A user name must be entered. The user name must be unique.
3. An email address ideally should be entered into the email address field. This can also be used as the username,. The user has a choice of which username to use, the one given or the email address - it is likely that their email address is the easier one to remember.
4. If the User does not have an email address, or it is not known, the email field can be left blank. The implication is that if the user forgets their password the system cannot send a reminder or new password to the user. The library must be contacted to manually reset the password for the user.
5. Upon saving the user record the password is generated automatically using a random number generator from within the system. This cannot be changed by the administrator.
6. The password is hidden from view by asterisks being presented on the screen in the password field after the user record has been saved.
7. Upon saving the user record an email is generated to the user whose record has been created. This is sent automatically. The text of the email can be defined by the library (see below). The email is sent with the login details and password. The user is prompted to change the password upon first use of the system. **Password must be a minimum of six character**s.
8. If no email address is entered into the email address field of the user record, the system is not able to email the password to the user and so the library staff must manually create a password. This needs to be sent to the user in some manner (obviously it cannot be emailed).

In the menu, *Template Maintenance*, there is a New User Template that can be edited and designed for a notice to go to a new User

In the Template filter (Template Type), select *New User Created Notification Message*
