User Groups are used to manage which [fines](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278323) (if any) are applied to which users, so that you can apply a fine structure to a group of users rather than individually. A typical scenario might be to define:

- "standard" users who pay the standard fines
- a group of users who pay higher fines
- a group of users who pay no fines

More complex situations may include users who pay differing levels of fines on different Content or Record Types.

> ⚠️ If you do not use fines, you do not need to define anything in this tab

Click on the User Group tab to bring up the following screen:

This displays all the User Groups that have been already defined in [User Group Maintenance](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279016).

To select a User Group for this user, click on the User Group name and then click the > arrow to move it into the list of groups that the user is a member of.

To select all groups, click the >> arrow.
