User Profiles are used to manage various setting that may apply to a user. At present, Profiles relate to only one function: whether users will see local office copies only on the OPAC Locations screen.

There are a number of ways that a user might have a profile:

- If the user is a member of a User Group, they will use the Profile assigned to the group.
- If the user is not a member of a User Group, you can allocate them a profile on the User Profile tab
- You can define the profile manually on the User Profile tab

The purpose of the User Profile tab is therefore to allow you to make an exception for this user, ie to have a different profile to other members of the User Group, or to allocate a profile if they are not members of a group.

> ⚠️ For most users, you will not need to specify anything in this tab

Click on the User Profile tab to bring up the following screen:

The user can either be allocated a profile that has already been defined in [User Profiles](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279001), or you can define the profile manually.

To select a Profile for this user, select from the drop-down list and click **Apply**.

> ⚠️ Note that when creating a profile in User Profiles, you can also automatically apply a profile to all users with a specific user group(s). If this has been done, then settings on this page may have already been applied when you view the user's record.

# Show local office copies only

To create the profile manually, tick the box to restrict the user to seeing local office copies only on the OPAC Locations screen, or leave it unticked if they are to see all copies.
