The Users module allows you to create and manage user records, user groups and user profiles.

User records need to be set up before any [loans](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278243) activity can take place and in order to control [access](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278418) to various aspects of the system. User Groups need to be set up before [fines](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278300) can be applied.

**To access user records, select** <span style="color: #ff0000">**Modules > Users**</span>.

There are three broad categories of user in the system:

|  |  |
| --- | --- |
| **Guest** | Users of the Search Portal (or OPAC) who do not log in and therefore have access to fewer facilities |
| **OPAC logged in** | User of the Search Portal (or OPAC) who log in and have access to facilities such as [self-issue](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279478), [My Account (old)](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278941), [Requests](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279207), etc |
| **Library staff** | Administrative users of the system, who have a [role](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279487). They have access to various admin functions depending on their role and [access permissions](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278418). |


It is also possible to set up [temporary borrowers](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278005) as part of the loans process.
