> ⚠️ Note that you need to have generated the [financial calendar](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278347) for each office and for each year that you want to generate a budget for, BEFORE you generate the budgets.

You can access the budget definition screen from:

- the list of accounts - click on the green dollar symbol next to the account
- when in an account record - click on **Budget** in the Actions box


Either route takes you to the following screen:

The following information is displayed:

|  |  |
| --- | --- |
| **Account:** | The account for which you are generating the budget |
| [**Currency**](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278042)**:** | The default currency defined in the application |
| **Generate budget for year:** | The next year for which a budget needs to be defined |
| **Multiplier:** | This is set to 1 |


To generate the budget:

1. If necessary:
  1. change the year for which you want to generate the budget
  2. change the multiplier - the amount by which this year's budget will be multiplied to calculate next year's budget. Or, you can manually enter the budget in step 4 below.
2. Click **Generate** in the Actions menu.
3. The budget information is then displayed underneath:> Macro (inline-media-image)
4. To enter the amount for the budget, click on the **Edit** icon to the right of the budget line.
5. The amount box opens:> Macro (inline-media-image)
6. Enter the amount for the budget (without commas)
7. Click on the Save icon to the right of the budget line.

The budget information is re-displayed, with the amended budget amount.

Click **Back** in the Actions menu to return to the list of accounts.

## Generating budgets for subsequent years

The year for which the budget can be generated now shows the next year, so that you can continue creating as many budget years as needed (provided you have generated the [financial calendar](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278347) for those years).
