There are different questions, depending on whether the item to be ordered is a serial or a standard subscription:

| **Is this purchase being made on approval?** | Select **Yes** if the item is being ordered on approval.
> ℹ️ Note that there is no workflow attached to this setting, it is for information only.
Otherwise, leave the selection as No. | No |
| **Is the above cost per volume or is it for ALL the volumes being ordered?** | Select either Cost per volume or For all the volumes - the cost below adjusts accordingly | Cost per volume |
Serial subscriptions
Answer the following questions:

| **Quantity required:** | Enter the number of subscription copies being ordered
It doesn't matter if you get this wrong here, as you can add additional copies in the [Copies & Distribution](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279389) stage | 1 |
| **No copies** | Tick if no physical copies are to be received (eg for an ejournal): the Distribution tab will then disappear | Unticked |
| **Delivery Office:** | Enter the office to which the order is to be delivered | The logged-in user's office |
| **Delivery period (working days):** | Enter the number of working days in which you expect the order to be delivered | 0 |
| **Do you want to barcode received copies?** | This relates to barcoding of the issues when they are received, and applies to all copies in this order line.
Note that you are able to change this setting for individual [copies](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3276905) or for the [whole order](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3277960/Creating+a+new+Order+from+Acquisitions#CreatinganewOrderfromAcquisitions-Barcoding)
Select **No** if barcodes are not to be applied - the last question will disappear.
Otherwise, leave the selection as Yes. | Yes |
| **Do you want barcodes to be generated automatically?** | Select one of the following three options:
- **Auto** (default) - this assigns a barcode to each received copy or serial issue automatically, as long as you have defined a barcode in [Barcode Templates Maintenance](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278679)
- **Manual** - allows you to manually enter a barcode when the copies or journal issues are received
- **None** - select this option if barcodes are not to be assigned to individual journal issues or copies. Note that if you select this option, you will not be able to loan the issues or copies to users. | Yes |
| **What is the payment type?** | This defines how the item will be paid for.
Select one of the following three options:
- **Invoice payment** - if the invoice is to be paid up front
- **PAYG** (Pay as you go) - if you pay for each issue as you receive it
- **Donation** - if the item is donated | Proforma invoice |
The following questions relate to both standard and subscription orders:

| **Is this order free of charge?** | Select **Yes** if the item is free - the last 4 questions relating to cost will disappear.
Otherwise, leave the selection as Yes. | No |
| **Never claim this title** | Tick the box only if you do not want to ever be able to claim this title | Unticked |

**What is the payment method?** | Select one of the following options:
- **Credit Card** - if you select this option, you are then asked to select a credit card from the list, as long as you have defined one or more credit cards in [Credit Cards Maintenance](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278035)
- **BACS** - allows you to manually enter a barcode when the copies or journal issues are received
- **Cheque** - select this option if barcodes are not to be assigned to individual journal issues. Note that if you select this option, you will not be able to loan the issues to users.
- **Other** | Other |
| **What is the cost of each copy?** | Enter the cost per copy. The currency shown is the default currency for the supplier you selected.
> ⚠️ For serials, this is the cost of the entire subscription, NOT each issue | 0.00 |

**Do taxes apply for this order line / subscription?** | Select **Yes** if taxes are to be applied - some additional questions will appear:
- **Select the Tax that applies to this order line** - if you have predefined [taxes](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278693), select the appropriate one from the drop-down list
- **Tax Value** - alternatively, enter a value for the tax
- **Is the cost inclusive of tax?** - the default is No
Otherwise, leave the selection as No. | No |

**Are there any discounts for this order line / subscription?** | Select **Yes** if a discount is to be applied - some additional questions will appear:
- **Is the discount applied before or after tax?** - this question only appears if you have selected taxes for this order line - the default is After
- **Order Line Discount** - if you have predefined [discounts](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3278869) that can be applied to order lines for this supplier, select the appropriate one from the drop-down list.
- **Discount Value** - alternatively, enter a value for the discount
Otherwise, leave the selection as No.
> ✅ Note that you can also apply discounts to the whole order. | No |
| **Are costs being charged to an account?** | Select **No** if you are not charging the order to accounts.
Otherwise, leave the selection as Yes. You will specify the accounts in the [Costs & Accounts](https://soutron.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HG/pages/3279369) tab. | Yes |
The Item Cost and Total Order Line Cost shown at the bottom of the screen change as you enter information into the fields above.
